…. was a delightful evening of good food, good wine, and good company shared by 32 Swiss and Malaysians at Pier 12 Seafood Tavern @ Old Malaya, a tastefully refurbished heritage house along Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur.
Guests started to arrive from 7pm and amongst the first few was H.E. Michael Winzap, Ambassador of Switzerland to Malaysia, who together with the other early arrivals, helped to set the mood for the night by donning a ‘reindeer hat’ encouraging others to also wear their ‘Santa Claus hats or other Christmas themed hats’. As guests registered they were given a LiveLife goodie bag containing Rilax and TruDtox samples, a calendar and magazine provided by the Swiss Embassy, Famous Amos cookies from DKSH, together with a choice of Christmas themed hats. A nice surprise was that the Swiss Embassy has sponsored the wines for the evening, not just any wines but wines from Switzerland, so we had the pleasure of white wines from Chasselas and red wines from Gamay grapes.
The Annual Dinner kicked off just a little after half past seven with the Ambassador giving the opening speech. This was followed by another speech by the Chairman, Mr Alain Augsburger, thanking the members of SMBA for their valued and continuous support.
Formalities over, dinner was served at eight. We were pleasantly surprised at quality, the variety and the generous portions of the food served by the chef.
After the first course, the party was livened up with the first fun game for the night with 6 volunteers dancing their hearts out to get the ping pong balls out of the box tied behind their backs. Some participants were really skillful in moving their bodies to pop the ping pong balls out very quickly. Winners were presented with hampers from DKSH.
After the second course the party continued with a Lucky Draw of hampers that were sponsored by Nestle followed by a deceivingly challenging game of eating donuts hung on a string. The challenge was to eat it without any hands and eating everything without any falling to the ground. It was more difficult than thought and the sporting participants had messy looking mouths but everyone enjoyed it especially the spectators.
There was something for everyone offered in the main course, from fish dishes to rack of lamb and lamb shank brought over from the Pampas kitchen a few doors away.
After dessert, guests proceeded upstairs which has a dance floor and an outdoor bar with a fantastic view of KL Towers. After the final game of ‘Reindeer Antler’, we had a lucky draw of 3 Davidoff neck ties worth RM 550 each, also sponsored by DKSH.
As that day also happened to be SMBA’s Chairman, Alain Augsburger’s birthday, Aileen Chan the main organizer for the Annual Dinner arranged a surprise birthday cake for him to celebrate so we had a piece of cake to end the Annual Dinner.
