On Friday March 23 SMBA had his first ever event in Melaka – jointly organized by SMBA and VCET Asia. We were joined by 20 members to visit the solar panel manufacturer SunPower followed by a fabulous dinner at the Portuguese Settlement – a special thanks to our 3 members from Penang that joined us!
SunPower established its solar cell production plant in 2008 and today with 1600 employees is one of the biggest employers in Melaka. SunPower decided to set-up in Melaka due to the following factors: (1) the cost of business is more competitive than the Klang Valley or Penang, (2) availability of required land space (facility is over 1km long) and (3) proximity to international airport KLIA and shipping ports. In their facility in Melaka they convert wafer into solar cells which are then exported and assembled to solar panels in their assembly plants in France or Mexico. SunPower solar cells have a higher conversion rate and with a unique 25-year Combined Power, Product and Service Warranty are more reliable and sustainable than competitive products.
Following to the factory visit VCET Asia hosted an outstanding dinner at the Portuguese settlement where all participants could enjoy Melakan Seafood specialties and French wine.
The event was such a great success that we decided to organize an event in Penang later this year – therefore if you missed this Melaka event ensure you will join us in Penang!
Thanks a lot to Cédric and Regis from VCET Asia for organizing this event and hosting dinner.
