SMBA HR CIRCLE Q2 Event
The second SMBA HR Circle in 2018 was held on Thursday, June 28. It was warmly hosted by SR Technics. Members had a good opportunity to reconnect amidst morning refreshments including hot coffee courtesy of Nespresso.
Listening with balance
The session opened with SR Technics Malaysia’s managing director Mr. Thomas Kennedy giving an introduction to the nature of SR Technics’ business in Malaysia.
Of particular interest was his sharing of their company’s challenge to mitigate the high 20% attrition rate among their staff. As they embarked on their “attrition recovery program”, they had identified wage and allowances as one of the main issues. After mining insights from their staff and making several adjustments and even relaxing medical perks to include traditional and alternative medical treatments, they have since achieved an 8% attrition rate this June. SR Technics Malaysia’s head of human resource Mr. Quentin Louis also shared about the challenges of creating work-life balance for the staff and finding common platforms to cater to different training needs.
Shaping expectations and leaders
In the first plenary session, Mr. Mozer Fakhruddin from MyTalent Sdn Bhd spoke about “Honesty@Work – Reward in a 10nm World”. It was a comprehensive session covering the critical role of the HR, building the staff’s expectations, and cultural resonance among many insights mined from his years of HR experience in multinational companies.
The next speaker, Mr. Wijen Randhawa shared about VUCA leadership. He brought a concept of defining a VUCA leader as one who constantly seeks to bring transformation by first changing oneself with a reminder to give opportunities to each person to see what they’re truly capable of.
After the talk, some members opted for an educational peek at SR Technic’s factory on a facility tour hosted by general manager of operations, Mr. Ananda Singaravelu. Everyone enjoyed a Hari Raya-themed networking lunch thereafter.
The SMBA HR Circle was established in 2016 and is held quarterly to foster the exchange between the Human Resource Practitioners of Swiss Companies active in Malaysia on all human resources related matters.
